10 Kenyan women who have helped shape Kenya’s history, Rogo Manduli is among them

The first African and first Kenyan to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Wangari Maathai was well respected woman having fought hard for Karura Forest.

Wangari Maathai marshaled up other women and hit the streets of Nairobi to oppose construction of a building at the present Uhuru Park.  Wangari Maathai was a woman of great achievement; she became the first woman in East Africa to earn a PhD which saw her get many positions at the University of Nairobi.

Due to her efforts, she joined politics under the government of Mwai Kibaki where she became assistant minister for environment and natural resources. In her capacity as an environment conservationist, she represented Kenya in international forums.However, cancer took her away in 2011.
