NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga decided to officiate his new target with a #10millionstrong against jubilee.
“I am humbled to receive the Presidential nomination of the Orange Democratic Movement party ahead of the August 8 General Election. The Party through 4,200 delegates drawn from all 47 counties of the country unanimously resolved to back my bid to serve as your President,” Raila said on Friday.
With only three months to the elections, Nasa is planning to rally its supporters in the grueling battle against Jubilee Party’s Uhuru Kenyatta with the unveiling of ’10 Million Strong’ which aims at having ten million Kenyans vote in favour of the Opposition.
Latest numbers by the IEBC show that about 19 million Kenyans have registered to vote since 2013 and the Opposition hopes to capture more half of that for the mandatory 50%+1 required to win in the first round.
“I stand together with you all, 10 million strong registered voters, to change the destiny of our great nation. One nation, one people,” added Raila.
If the past voting patterns is anything to go by, Nasa faces an uphill task in convincing people in the Opposition strongholds to come out and vote in large number as voter apathy has been a reality in the past and has always affected Raila’s tally.
Getting to ten million also means convincing a majority of people in the battle grounds to cast their votes largely in favour of Raila.
The IEBC figure of 19 million registered voters is also expected to reduce greatly after the cleaning up of the master register, which is on going.
