Political temperatures are still up there after Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday, August 8, but is slowly being replaced by tension.

On the said Tuesday, spirited Kenyans without minding which political side they were supporting, brave the chilly and damp morning to elect leaders who will take charge of different offices from the President to Governors down to county reps, for the next five years.

John Paul Mwirigi

Four days later though, a cloud hangs above the country because of disputed presidential results after the National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer, Raila Odinga, demanded that he be declared winner by IEBC because provisional results which showed Uhuru was winning, are flawed.

All is not doom and gloom though as this election produced some sort of a miracle after a 24-year-old man from Meru County beat all odds to win a parliamentary seat. John Paul Mwirigi is basking in the glory of being elected the youngest MP in the 2017 polls. He is a university student.

The youngster is set to become Igembe South Member of Parliament for the next five years after successfully trouncing area bigwigs who were sponsored by giants parties while being an independent candidate.

Igembe South was presented in the ending term by Mithika Linturi who vacated the seat to vie for Meru senatorial seat which he has since won.

John Paul reportedly wore one sweater during the entire campaigning period leading to his more moneyed competitors turning him into a punchline. But guess who had the last laugh?
