A Multimedia University student who was arrested last week has been acquitted following accusations of making an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
According to Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome however, they found out that the object is a computer motherboard with capacitors attached to it.
This past Thursday, on May the 25th, police asked the court to remand Ngugi for 10 days so as to establish the motive behind making the explosive device.
But Kamau insisted he assembled it for a class video shooting project. According to him, he and his colleagues were shooting a scene that required them to make the IED.
“When the police came to arrest me, I asked the arresting officer to call the crew and confirm the details but they refused,” Ngugi noted.
The student went on to add that they forgot to dismantle it after the shoot was complete.
Milimani senior principal magistrate Peter Ooko terminated the case against Ngugi after the Director of Public Prosecution applied to have the case file closed.
