Anti-riot police were deployed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission offices on Monday following a threat by Cord leaders that they will a stage sit-in to pile pressure on the officials to quit.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome said Cord will not be allowed into the IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers. Report says the CORD supporters are trying to break into the IEBC offices and police are fighting them back.

Raila Odinga has accused the Jubilee government and the IEBC of arguing against reforms for a democratic electoral system.

The Cord leader said changes being pushed by the Opposition are aimed at reflecting the will of members of the public.

“Three years after an election characterized by missing forms and ever-shifting numbers in the voter register, virtually nothing is going on. We are being told to sit back and wait for a miracle,” he said.

CORD protesters are also said to be gathering at Jeevanjee gardens and Muindi Mbingu Street. Nairobians are asked to avoid these area.

Gunshots and teargas are being fired by Anti-riots officers fighting back the CORD supporters trying to break into Anniversary towers.
