Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga is being investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after it emerged that his County allegedly used Sh5 Million to pay First Class Air Tickets for Rosalia (Rasanga’s wife) on several occasions.
Investigations by EACC officers also revealed that the County further spent more money on air tickets for the Governor’s children, niece and political friends.
To aid in their investigations, the detectives obtained tickets from two travel agents, Pel Travel and Kisumu Link, through which the County paid for the air tickets.
EACC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Michael Mubea said that, ”we are almost concluding the investigations and once the file is ready it will be forwarded to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko for directions”.
The revelations come after a report by the Auditor General, Edward Ouko showed that Siaya County spent Sh141 Million without following the law.
However, the Governor denied the claims arguing that the Government does not bar him from travelling with his family.
“If my family travelled by air, it is their right but I want to make it clear that they never used public funds. I also wish to deny categorically that I bought air tickets for my friends using public money. I challenge the EACC to produce the names,” Rasanga affirmed
A recent audit report by the Auditor General’s office indicated that different counties had misappropriated funds, most of which could not be accounted for by the Governors.
