The DP William Ruto’s office has experienced a huge blow after the state house took away the key functions from that office which include the Lamu Port Project.
The Deputy President had taken over key responsibilities from the office of the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
The DP’s spokesman said that crucial departments were still housed at Harambee House Annex where Ruto has an office.
Ruto’s office has been rocked after key responsibilities that fell into dockets were transferred to state House. This is a major blow as the office will lose some power.
The institutions that were moved include: The Efficiency Monitoring Unit, the State Corporations Oversight Office which includes State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) and Inspectorate of State Corporations and Oceanic Management Office.
These departments that have been transferred from Ruto’s office have been handed over to the office of the deputy chief of staff, Nzioka Waita who is based at state House.
However, this has raised concerns as supporters of the deputy president are displeased as there has been no replacement for the position of chief of staff previously held by Ms. Maryanne Kitany.
However, the president’s spokesman Manoah Esipisu said that the replacement by the president is only to increase efficiency and nothing more.
“This reorganization by the President is meant to increase efficiency and nothing more.”
In addition to that, David Mugonyi, the DP’s spokesman also said that the Deputy president office and the president’s office are coordinated under the presidency.
“There is really nothing unusual in this thing. All these offices under the Presidency are answerable both to the President and his Deputy,”
The Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen also added that the team was intact between the DP and the president.
