The National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals left the masses surprised during a rally in Eldoret county after supporting the reelection of Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago.
Mandago is the Jubilee Party candidate which is led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto. The incumbent is facing tough competition from independent candidate Ezekiel Bundotich alias Buzeki who lost during the party nominations.
The Opposition coalition’s deputy president candidate, Kalonzo Musyoka, declared that if he had a vote in Eldoret he would cast it in favour of Mandago.
“If I was voting in Eldoret, I would vote for my brother Mandago on August 8,” the Wiper party leader said leaving the crowd surprised.
The county experienced one of the most vigorous party nominations in the country thanks to the rivalry between billionaire businessman Buzeki and Mandago who accused the newcomer of being a project of DP Ruto.
Speaking at the meeting, Raila revisited the issue of President Uhuru Kenyatta skipping their debate saying he was ready to face the Head of State.
“Had he come, we would have questioned each other on how Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living including the shortage of Unga.”
The Orange Democratic (ODM) chief said he would have told Uhuru that Kenyans are suffering due to the corruption that is ruining the country.
Raila, 72, said he was readying himself to take over power in the next few weeks adding that “the question is not if but when Nasa wins”.
The leader of Opposition said he will immediately embark on industrial development in the country to create jobs for the more than 12 million unemployed youth.
“We will give our youth opportunity for upwards social mobility so that they improve their lives.” He said.
