Governors are known to be powerful people. However when the law comes in, they humble themselves.
Recently when Mwangi Wa Iria was caught by the EACC detectives you could not tell if he was a governor. Fast forward early this week, Tharaka Nithi governor Samwel Ragwa was in court after he was found of disobeying court orders.
Ragwa had failed to reinstate the county secretary as had been ordered, through his lawyer Murago Mwendwa, the governor requested the judge not to jail him for six months. ‘The Governor regrets the turn of events; he says he is extremely remorseful and will request that the court take his apologies,’ said his lawyer.
The governor who was found guilty of contempt of court risked being jailed for six months, however in his defense he said that he had reinstated the secretary and given him a vehicle a claim that was refuted by Njeru’s lawyer.
‘Despite there being court orders, the governor has continued to frustrate Njeru. Because of his conduct, we pray that he be jailed,’ urged the lawyer.
The governor got a relieve when the judge ordered them to leave and return on a later date with papers showing the compliance of the orders.
