The meteorological department predicted that long rains will begin this Friday ending excessive heat that has rocked the country.
Then temperatures were so high that in some places like Mombasa they went up to 40°C. “Friday marks the start of rainfall over most parts of the country as the season sets in,” said Patricia Nying’uro, a Kenya Meteorological Department officer.
Some Kenyans in the rural areas who were anticipating the rain had started planting following light showers in some parts of the country. The meteorological officer also announced the dates when the rains will begin and end adding that in most places the rains will start on Friday except for Lake Victoria basin and Rift Valley highlands where evening showers and thunderstorms will begin on Tuesday next week.
According to Patricia, Central highlands rains will begin on Friday morning but give way to sunny intervals and return in the evening. The Coastal counties of Mombasa where temperatures soared above 40°C, will have morning showers beginning Friday.
