The 2015 Annual Criminal Report reveals that one of the most dangerous gangster shot dead at least six police officers while they were on duty in Nairobi last year 2015. These incidences happened between July and November 2015.
Kennedy Mwangi popularly know as ‘mwas’ remained mysterious to the authorities as he was a smooth operator, until when he was traced and killed in November 2015.
Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss Nicholas Kamwende reported that the gang that Mwangi led had killed at least five officers and seriously injured three and that he had stolen at least five guns from the officers. Mwangi, is also believed, to have killed the Administration Police officer in charge of operations at Njiru Sub-station. The feared gangster also attacked Senior Administration Police Achilles Kiwanuka and snipped away his Ceska pistol.
Mwangi is also dragged with the killings of Constable Johnson Muimi of the Anti-Narcotics department in September at the gate of Moi Forces Academy, Juja Road while checking on his Motorcycle. In October, he led a gang that killed Constable John Meme of Kasarani Police Station when Meme and his colleague were responding to a distress call by boda boda guys. He is also believed to have seriously injured two Intelligence Service officers and stolen their guns.
Mwangi is also alleged to be among the gang that shot Constable Benson Karugu of Anti-Terrorism Police Unit at Dandora Estate and the shooting of Inspector Zadock Khamala, who was in charge of the Ngumo AP camp at the time of his death.
Mr Nicholas Kamwende reported that the feared gang leader was tracked down by Special Crime Prevention Unit and Flying Squad officers who eliminated him at his Dandora hideout in November.
