Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students took to the streets over the death of a student at the institution. The students blocked the Thika Super Highway in their protests, causing a massive traffic jam that was felt by motorist in kilometers. The angry students claimed “negligence” by the university hospital’s medical staff caused the death of one of their own.
The victim was taken to hospital after suffering from alleged food poisoning but was not given the required attention and medication and was left lying helpless on the hospital bed without being attended leading to his demise.
Police from the Juja Police Station had a hard time containing the rioting students and were forced to engaged in running battles.They used tear gas and shot in the air to disperse the students.
Kiambu police boss, Stephen Ngetich, said that Police were doing their best to silence the strike and allow normal movement of traffic.
