A local chief is on the spot for allegedly beating up a young man who was later found dead outside a mosque in Chuka.
According to witnesses, the victim had engaged in a serious argument with his mother, who went to report the matter to the Chief.
In response, the administrator and one of the village elders went to the man’s home where they thoroughly attacked him before transferring him to the chief’s camp.
They later tried to have the young man locked in a police cell but officers apparently refused demanding he be taken to the hospital as he was seriously injured.
Confirming the incident, Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Mary Wangui has said that investigations were still underway to determine the claims by the villagers.
Ms Wangui urged members of the public to volunteer any evidence regarding the matter, promising them that their identities would be concealed.
