On Wednesday a car branded with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s campaign posters, was nabbed in a swoop by anti-narcotics police.
The vehicle is now being held by police after the Monday incident where police targeted the menacing drug traffickers in the coastal town.
The vehicle was among seven Toyota vehicles which are in police custody following the raid on drug dens in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
And now Jamal who is a close ally of Joho have come to his defense saying the vehicle does not belong to him. It would have been easy to verify the claims but the number plates on the car had been blurred in the photos that have since gone viral, as the police investigate the matter.
The masses had gotten to the conclusion that the car belongs to the Governor, that it is part of his campaign fleet.
Speaking to journalists on phone yesterday however, Jamal Gaddafi, an employee of Standard Group, and a member of Joho’s communication team, said the car had been branded by Joho’s opponents in a bid to soil his name.
“We have no association with the arrested persons, we don’t know them and the branded car was fashioned by bandits to discredit the Governor, ” Gadaffi said.
The former Mzuqa presenter went on to add that he was hoping the culprits would be brought to book as soon as possible so as the Governor’s name is cleared from the accusations.
