Born from a needy family in Muran’ga County and having gone through his education, Mr Irungu Nyakera is the youngest Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport at only 33 years.
Mr Nyakera is an old boy of Starehe Boys’ Centre, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination in 2000. He holds a Diploma in Management Information Systems and a bachelor’s degree in Management Science Engineering from Stanford University in California, United States.
He also hold a Master’s in Finance and Decision Engineering.
He first worked at Citi Group in London after graduating from Stanford University in 2007. Then later joined NIC in 2008 as a General Manager then promoted to Managing Director. He later joined Equity Investment Bank in 2014 as a Managing Director where he was named as a possible successor of Dr. James Mwangi.
In 2015, Mr Irungu applied for the PS job and as usual was invited for the interviews. Luckily he was appointed as the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport.
The PS was recently listed among the Top 40 Men Under 40 during an awards gala night held at the Windsor Golf and Country Club others included; David Rudisha, Musyoka Muthui, Victor Wanyama, Ezra Chiloba among others .
Irungu Nyakera who has been overseeing projects at the Transport ministry since last December has His Family, the late Starehe Boys’ founding director Geoffrey Griffin and Chelsea on his speed dial. According to his Twitter handle, Irungu’s value for Family, Chelsea, Finance, Wildlife and Poetry is not quantifiable.
