G.G Kariuki the Senator of Laikipia County is currently the oldest politician serving the government today having entered the parliament at only 29 years.
G.G Kariuki served in the Kenyatta’s government and under Moi’s regime Kariuki was a one-time minister of health as well as the powerful docket security minister.
In 2003 G.G Kariuki was elected as the Member of Parliament in Laikipia West a post he held for 5 years.
Born in 1938, Senator Kariuki hit the headlines recently when he became the oldest public leader to study for and earn a PhD from a Kenyan university.
The senator who have been at the helm of power and served all four presidents graduated with a PhD in international relations.
It is interesting to note that the politician attended Lancaster house conferences in London back in the 1960’s. At 78 Kariuki owns large farms in Rumuruti, Laikipia County where he rears daily cows.
He also wrote Illusion of Power: Fifty Years in Kenya Politics, which is a true reflection on his half-century in politics.
His academic story resembles that of Maruge who at the age of 84 he captured the attention of the world and when he decided to go back to school.
