An explosion caused by an electric fault in hostel D of Moi University, Eldoret has caused anxiety and panic among students as many thought they were under attack by the terrorist.

The alarm prompted students to jump from the windows in an attempt to save their lives causing injuries to about 30 students.

A report from the University press said “Students in the neighbouring Hostel G, unaware of the electric fault, thought the University had been attacked after one student shouted, “Al-Shabaab”, raising fear among the rest of the students,”

The institution reported that 11 students sustained bad injuries and have been referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. The rest had minor injuries and were treated at the University’s dispensary and discharged.

With Kenya being at high alert of a terror attack following the Brussels attack, many student got really terrified by the enormous blast.

It is still fresh in the students memories of their fellow students who died in 2015 terror attack at Garissa University.
