Oh No Not Even a single voter showed up at this polling station

Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday, August 8, where they elected their preferred candidates.

But as their fellow countrymen and women braced the morning cold, residents of Tigania East in Meru county were not as enthusiastic. Not a single voter in Lowangila polling station near Isiolo town turned out to vote.

We has established that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) failed to pitched tent in the area during the voter registration exercise in 2016.

It is also said that at the said polling station, there were no observers, no political party agents or independent candidates.

Onesmus Mwirabua who was supposed to be the Presiding Officer arrived at the station early, he waited from 6am to around 5pm but not a soul showed up.

We have been waiting for the lone (registered) voter since morning but they have not turned up. We have been forced to close with zero votes after the official closing time reached without the voter turning up,” the Nation quoted the PO.

It seems though that a nearby polling station identified as North Lowangila which had registered 515, swallowed all the voters from the said ghost one where residents reportedly shifted to.

The voting exercise refereed by IEBC kicked off across the country on the morning of August 8, with only a handful incidents having been reported.

The tallying of results in the presidential race kicked off almost immediately after the polling stations closed at 5pm. IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati had ordered earlier that stations whose operations were affected for some reasons or the another, that they extend their hours.
