A school girl and a man were shot dead by police officers in Butula,Busia County during demos against the murder of two residents.
The deceased are said to have been in a group of protestants demonstrating over the murder of two security guards by individuals suspected to be police officers.
Three other people were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds after police used live bullets to disperse the angry crowd.
Deputy County Commissioner Bosek Lagat confirmed the incidence and stated that police resorted to using live bullets, reason being they had not carried tear gas.
“Police who went to disperse the demonstrations were overwhelmed and were forced to use live bullets as they did not have tear gas or rubber bullets,” Lagat told a local daily.
Lagat also claimed that a police officer was attacked and seriously injured by some of the demonstrators.
The angry residents further demanded that the police officers who killed the school girl be arrested. The deputy county commissioner, however, assured that investigations had been launched into the murder of the two individuals.
