Police officer Mercy Wandera, who was assaulted by DP William Ruto’s pilot Alistair Patrick Llewelyn in Nyandarua last month has been feted by a local NGO.
Ms Wandera was randomly selected and nominated to be feted because of her outstanding and unique personality that she displayed on February 21 at Ndunyu Njeru Stadium in North Kinangop, soon after the DP had alighted from his aircraft.
The NGO, Aids Reality Awareness Campaign and Drugs Abuse Prevention Surveillance (ARECA-DAPS) Association says that Ms Wandera displayed wisdom by avoiding a confrontation which could have led to scenarios that may have embarrassment to the DP and the local community.
Wandera, based at Magumu police post will receive a Community Based Hero’s Award and certificate from the NGO through her boss, the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
The NGO’s director Michael Munene said Wandera was unanimously selected to receive the award due to the her unique personality that she exhibited.
In a letter, the NGO says even after being humiliated in front of the many people, the officer restrained herself from reacting.
“If you had not tactfully restrained the mob, the action could have caused an embarrassment and disrespect to the DP and the entire country,” said the letter.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to Nyandarua County Commissioner Joseph Kimiti, Nyandarua Police Commandant Hamisi Mambeya, the OCPD Kinangop police division and OCS Njabini Police station.
The pilot was sacked by his employer following the incident
