Ida, the wife of the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, has opened up why her husband is fond of using ‘vitendawili’ [riddles] in most of his addresses, especially in his political gatherings.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have christened the Opposition leader “Yule Jamaa Wa Vitendawili” [The riddle guy] to mean he is just full of hot air and little action, especially in their reelection campaign rallies.
His favorite are off the cuff commentary on imaginary football matches where Raila paints a picture of the Opposition leaders battling for the ball with their Jubilee counterparts. The climax is when he is left with the ball and scores the decisive goal.
Due to the habit, UhuRuto often dismiss him as just a person who is only good at story telling and nothing more.
Raila’s wife, Mama Ida, has now come out to explain why Raila likes using vitendawili.
Speaking to NTV on the evening of Wednesday, August 2, the possible future First Lady, said his husband uses this style of communication to effectively pass across his thoughts to his audience. That his humour helps in arresting the attention of the people.
Ida also revealed that Raila learnt a lot of Kiswahili when he was in detention. She says the former detainee passed his ten years behind bars reading a lot of Swahili books and the Bible.
Without mentioning names, Ida dismissed Deputy President William Ruto saying instead of disrespecting Raila, he should know that he is his political child.
“Every time you say kitendawili people pay attention, they want to hear what is coming next. But if you’re just giving lectures and warning people that is not leadership. People get scared of you. Look at the lighter side of life,” Ida said.
She was positive that this time around, her husband will carry the day after he failed in his three presidential bids. She said she felt it is Raila’s time.
