Retired President Daniel Arap Moi has opposed the scrapping off of the 8-4-4 education system by the Government wanting to replace it with 2-6-3-3-3 system.
Speaking yesterday, Moi warned Uhuru/Ruto against scrapping the current system of education without careful thought saying the proposed structure would be a heavy burden to Kenyans and difficult to implement.
He challenged Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government to explain to Kenyans if the government had enough money to successfully execute the switch-over saying it is an expensive procedure. He also added that it was improper to scrap the decades old 8-4-4 system and hastily replace it with 2-6-3-3-3 without explaining to Kenyans the full implication and importance of such a radical move
“I’m noticing a panic mode and haste to introduce a new system without regard to the financial element of the move… I would like the experts to calculate the cost and the financier to declare that he has enough funds to carry it to success. With the huge financial implications, the Government should not rush the system. Given that the system is mired in corruption and the cost of buildings and the equipment, I doubt if such goals can be achieved within the stipulated period”, Moi said
