31-Year-Old Standard Group’s journalist from Kiambu County John Karume, has passed on after a long battle with cancer.
Karume died on Saturday while receiving treatment at Thika Level Five Hospital.
Leaders and colleagues have condoled with his family describing him as a committed and focused journalist who went out of his way to report objectively and without bias.
Sigona ward MCA Mutonya Njenga said that Karume was among the few journalists who remained committed to their course in informing the masses without being compromised.
“We have lost an important soul and his level of professionalism in journalism will be dearly missed. You fought a good fight, ran the full race but most importantly you kept the Faith. May your soul rest in peace,” he said on Monday.
Karume had worked for The People Daily newspaper as a correspondent attached to Kiambu County before he moved to Standard.
He was diagnosed with cancer last year in December and conducted a fundraiser in January to raise funds to cater for his medical expenses.
