A meeting organised by Nairobi Women Rep Rachel Shebesh, was disrupted after ‘Men in black’ stormed the venue on Thursday, July 27.
There was a near stampede as the youth chased the women out claiming Shebesh was buying identity cards so as to interfere with Opposition numbers.
The group reportedly converged at Chrisco Church near the Railways Club in Nairobi when the youth stormed it saying they were out to “protect Raila’s votes’.
“Hatuwezi kukaa tu na kura za baba zinanunuliwa [We just can’t sit and watch as Raila’s votes are being interfered with]” one of the youths told journalists.
The evening news was awash with pictures of women scampering for safety with some falling at the exit of the meeting hall. Some were holding onto their small babies as the youth brought down a tent and broke plastic chairs.
They then ordered the women who had showed up to leave the hall and asked them to go home.
Shebesh later said that she had met with the women for a meeting meant to uplift them financially. “These are women from Nairobi and I’m their Women Rep who wants to help them do table banking, uplift their business and bursaries for their children,” said the Jubilee candidate.
She blamed Esther Passaris who is eyeing her seat on an ODM ticket, for the melee and warned her against spoiling for a war.
“I want to tell Passaris that if she is looking for a fight, she should not provoke Shebesh,” she warned.
