Wonders will never cease as a woman in Kisii County is under police custody after she was accused of killing her 3 year old child to keep her job as a house help.
The woman claimed that her 3-year old daughter was spoiling her chances of staying in the job, hence she threw the little girl in the ranging waters of River Iyabe in Iyabe village on Monday.
Witnesses said that the 21-year old woman was on Monday morning in a haste to catch a vehicle to Nairobi, where she had been working as a house help at Umoja estate and her employer had warned her she could not work with the baby as there were other babies to be taken care of.
She later left for the country side, Kisii, where it is said that she tried to convince her relatives including her mother to stay with the baby to no avail.
The woman’s relatives reported her to the chief and police when they noticed she was about to leave town without the daughter.
It is said that screams of a villager around River Iyabe prompted other residents to respond who tagged the area chief along.
The baby’s lifeless body was seen floating on the river waters, 300 metres from its mother’s homestead.
Kisii South OCPD David Mburukua confirmed the incident and assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court after completing investigations. Mr Mburukua added that the incident was unfortunate since the mother was linked to the murder of her own blood.
“We are waiting for a postmortem report before we can prefer suitable charges against the suspect,” he stated.
