Following NACADA’s chairman John Mututho claims that senior police officers were protecting criminal gangs involved in the sale and distribution of drugs within and outside University of Nairobi, Police on Saturday conducted a search in the hostels of the university and recovered 25kgs of bhang, blood stained knives and nine pangas.

The raid which aimed at recovering weapons and drugs that students reportedly hide in their hostels focused on hall nine hostels where it is believed criminals operate from.
However, reports indicate that the operation did not meet its target because University security officials warned some of the students prior to the raid, prompting them to hide some items from their rooms.
According to the Star, Officers who conducted the operation are said to have been under instruction to find weapons following several complaints filed at Kileleshwa police station of violent robberies allegedly carried out by UoN students.
The University was closed down on Tuesday following violent protests by the students over the re-election SONU Chairman Babu Owino for the fourth time.
