The principal of Bumuyange Secondary School in Vihiga county was strangled to death in an attack by suspected thugs on Tuesday morning and found on the road side by Boda Boda guys.
Tom Majanga had been transferred from Gimengo Secondary School to Bumuyange a few months ago.
Confirming the incidence, the area chief Joseph Mavisi said Majanga had left his house in Gisambai past midnight, telling neighbours he was going to attend to an emergency in his rural home at Chamakanga.
He said the body sustained head injuries and with signs of strangling. The body was taken to St Monica Mortuary.
Initial investigations indicated that the principal died from head injuries inflicted by a sharp object and also reported that the victim’s vehicle had been ransacked, a gesture that some items could have been stolen from the vehicle. Police in that region are still doing further investigations.
Kahi Indimuli, vice chairperson of Kenya Secondary School Heads Association said security must be provided for school-heads citing that some may fall victim of circumstances following critical decisions they make while executing their mandate.
