Members of the Homa Bay County Assembly on Wednesday caused a stir after being offered soda and local mandazi for lunch. The furious MCAs protested the lunch terming it a sign of disrespect considering their status and their role in passing the county’s budget.
The organizers of the budget forum had a rough time as the MCA’s demanded to know why they were not entertained at the nearby Cold Spring Hotel or given cash.
“This is unacceptable to elected leaders. We are not school children to be treated to sodas and mandazi,”
one of them said furiously.
David Okeyo, the County Executive Committee member for finance had a hard time explaining to the MCAs why they had been treated like ‘kindergarten kids or high school students’.
“Honourable members, we were not aware of such an arrangement. Allow us to consult with our superiors,”
said Dr Okeyo.
However, Okoyo’s plea fell on deaf ears as the MCA’s surged towards him demanding for answers. He was later whisked away by his aides. The furious MCAs later walked away after realizing that their demands could not be met.
