Kenya rarely experience serious winter with snow but now Nyahururu residents can attest to the ice fall that have been witnessed in the area for some time now.
And this time round residents of Nyahururu, Laikipia County were on Tuesday treated to another ‘snowfall’ as temperatures fell to as low as 4.6°C.
Daily operations in Nyahururu were temporarily interrupted after centimetres of hail covered the Rumuruti-Nyahururu and the Nyahururu-Maralal roads.
The hail, which many mistook for snow, also covered adjacent farms in Sironi, Limunga and Maili Saba villages.
Residents and motorists stopped their daily activities to take pictures of the ‘snow’ and took to social media pages to share the ‘rare’ spectacle.
But the Kenya Meteorological Department has confirmed that the spectacle was as a result of a hailstorm caused when rain clouds form too fast.
