Located 35 Kilometers in the East of Nairobi, Thika is one of the oldest towns in Kenya. Along Khame Nkurumah street, you will notice an old building which was constructed in1933.
It is highly populated thanks to the high number of education institutions it hosts. Mount Kenya University main campus is located here as well as a number of university campuses including Moi University. Economically, Thika town is known to produce the world’s best pineapples all thanks to Delmonte Company.
However, Thika is known to host twilight girls from as early 6pm, sadly enough some girls are college students who live in the hostels but goes to make some extra cash. Scantily dressed, the girls who are barely 21 courageously approach men especially those driving but are normally turned down.
However these girls demand as low as Sh. 100- 150 for from the hungry men in the dark streets of Thika town. The famous spots for these twilight girls are, Maathai, Witeithie House and Rwambogo.
These charges will not guarantee the lady that the man will wear a condom; hence the rate of the Hiv/Aids is very high in Thika town. The number of street families in town has also gone up, giving rise to insecurity at night in the highly populated town.
