More than 60 people escaped death narrowly the bus they were traveling in was hit by a train near Naivasha. Five people are fighting for their lives as several others are nursing minor injuries.
The bus was ferrying home flower farm workers in the area when the accident occurred.
The passengers who got injured were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Federal Hospital, five of them from Avarta farm in critical condition.
Kenya Red Cross said that three of the five were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment.
A total of 24 others sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged. The accident happened a few kilometers from Naivasha town near Panorama Hotel along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.
A witness, Peter Muiruri, said the driver of the bus was crossing the railway line to join an adjacent road, when the hooting train that headed Kisumu hit it.
The bus was reportedly dragged for some meters to the horror of the passengers, before the train continued with its journey.
“The driver’s view was obstructed by some trees, leading to the accident,” a worker in the bus only identified as Simon in the report said.
Naivasha deputy OCPD Agnes Ajamong who confirmed the accident, said police were searching for the driver of the bus, as he had fled after the accident.
