Its official that Olive Mugenda who has headed Kenyatta University for a decade left the institution over the weekend after her contract ended.
The mother of four, Olive Mugenda has turned down an offer of Sh. 100 million shillings given to her by the University council as a send-off package, saying that she was a public servant who should not be accorded special treatment.
Other offers by the university include a 10-day holiday at a country of her choice accompanied by a spouse or a friend, a persona vehicle and a complete home worth Sh. 20 million. Mugenda is married to Professor Abel Mugenda and both are alumni of Iowa State University.
Mugenda who has changed the institution leaves a legacy as the woman who changed the face of Kenyatta University.
When she assumed the office, Kenyatta University did not have structures like the structures in the compound right now. Kenyatta University which hosted Barack Obama last year is currently constructing one of the biggest children hospitals in Africa.
With over 70,000 students Kenyatta University is yet to open a Shopping mall which sits in the entire compound all thanks to Olive Mugenda.
