Motorists in Nairobi County have been cautioned against filling stations attendants who are con-men.
This is following an incident in which an attendant was caught at Ridge-ways Shell station where a consumer noticed that the attendant was trying to swap his ATM card on another machine. It’s said that the skimming machine records and keeps your bank details and the con-men can use the details later and steal from your bank account or hack it.
Victimized customer explained “I immediately inquired from him as to what he had just done. It was at this point that the attendant fled on foot, and while running he tossed the card skimmer he was using to steal client details for fraudulent purposes. I was, however, able to pursue him and apprehend him after about 1 km of pursuit of running, I subdued him and reported the matter to the police.”
Vivo Energy Kenya, which operates Shell petrol stations, has apologized and closed its Ridge-ways petrol station and services of the retailer in-charge terminated.
