The Jubilee Party gubernatorial candidate who lost the Homa Bay race to ODM’s Cyrian Awiti in the hotly-contested August 8 elections, has re-declared his allegiance to Uhuru Kenyatta just weeks after his big loss.
Accompanied by a group of Nyanza Jubilee Party leaders who also unsuccessfully vied for different seats in the Opposition stronghold, Onyango asked their supporters to maintain peace as they wait for the Supreme Court to rule in Raila Odinga’s petition.
“Even though there is a court case which is set to deliberate on the issue, we are asking the people of Nyanza to be patient. As the Jubilee members from Nyanza region we are asking our people to wait for the verdict and to maintain peace in the region,” he noted.
Onyango was speaking on Thursday, August 24, during a strategy meeting in Kisumu City and went on to add that they will fully support Uhuru Kenyatta to the end despite their respective losses in the polls.
He also asked President Kenyatta not to ignore Nyanza in his development agenda even though the region overwhelmingly voted for his long time rival Raila.
“All Nyanza people need to be considered too because they pay taxes, the President belongs to all of us,” he said.
