The Kenya Rugby Sevens team Shujaa was met with a warm reception upon touching down in the afternoon at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after winning the Main Cup of HSBC Rugby Sevens Singapore series.
Following their historic win, Shujaa sponsors Kenya Airways has promised them that each player 17 player will receive $1,000 and 3 tickets to any airline’s destination of choice as their token.
Mike Mbuvi Sonko the Nairobi Senator also announced that he would compliment the offer with an extra Sh100,000 to every player who participated in the tournament.
In addition to that, the Cabinet Secretary of Sports and culture Hassan Wario promised that the government would give Sh2 Million to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to clear all accruing allowances and bills for the players.
Wario divulged that plans were set for the team to be hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House on Wednesday, during which a special announcement in line with awarding Shujaa would be made.
The promises were made at Ole Sereni Hotel where the Champions were treated to lunch after being ferried from JKIA in state-of-the art limousines courtesy of the Sonko Rescue Team.
