- In the period of February and March President Uhuru has visited Israel, Djibouti,Tanzania and Ghana
President Uhuru Kenyatta has yet again been forced to publicly defend his numerous foreign trips which have always raised criticism from the opposition and other Government critics.
The President with his Deputy William Ruto are on a charm offensive in the Central Rift Valley counties of Nakuru and Baringo
“The money that the government has injected in Baringo county alone is KSh 12.2 billion by June this year… Why then do they accuse us of making numerous foreign trips yet its through the trips that the national government gets money,” said President Uhuru in apparent reference to his critics.
He went ahead to say that the opposition will know how to run a government when they take over power from JAP in 2032.
Uhuru and William Ruto are on a 4-day tour of Baringo and Nakuru counties.
While many of Uhuru Kenyatta’s trips have been of economic and diplomatic benefit, his critics have argued that the huge delegations that accompany the president makes the trips very expensive to the taxpayer.
According to the Controller of Budget report for the year ending June 2015, Uhuru Kenyatta’s numerous foreign trips cost the taxpayer KSh1 billion. He had made at least 24 foreign trips in the period under review.
