A woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend 22 times killing him instantly in 2015 has been crowned Miss Lang’ata in the concluded beauty contest of Lang’ata women’s prison.
Ruth Kamande who is serving a sentence for stabbing Farid Ahmed in Buruburu Estate due to a love triangle, emerged top and beat 19 other contestants to win the annual Miss Langata beauty pageant in a tough competition, which the top three were all inmates.
Tina Martin, a Tanzanian citizen facing drug trafficking charges emerged first runners up while Susan Wairimu, accused of robbery with violence and murder and whose case is yet to be completed came third.
Nairobi Women Rep Rachael Shebesh, who was the Chief Guest, offered to pay bail for 20 of the inmates in remand but have been unable to pay bond.
“It does not make sense to remand petty offenders like these ones just because they cannot pay bail because it contributes to congestion in the prisons,”
