A team of young innovators from Kilifi County has created a system to detect Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), contributing to the ongoing efforts in combating terrorism in Kenya.

Eagan Baya, a member of the Coast Team Innovators, explained that the motivation behind developing this system stemmed from the recurring incidents of IED attacks observed in various regions of the country. He shared this innovation at the Kilifi County innovation exhibition, which was arranged by young innovators in collaboration with the county government to showcase a range of inventive solutions.

Baya emphasized that terrorists have been targeting civilians, military personnel, and other security officials, resulting in detrimental effects on the economy. He highlighted that the collaborative efforts of innovators in developing solutions like the IED detecting system will contribute to creating a safer future, not only for Kenya but also for the world. The system incorporates a combination of imported, improvised, and locally sourced materials.

Felkin Kaingu, the Kilifi County CEC Member for ICT, expressed their gratitude for hosting the innovators and providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and innovations. He underscored the county's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to self-employment and pledged to further engage the youth and community in ventures and innovations showcased at the exhibition, which he described as truly unique.

Christophe Young from Kijani Customs Solutions said their core function and mandate is to provide clean water to everybody who requires it. They have the technology available now and offer quite a number of systems and solutions that enable that in a sustainable way. They are trying to move away from single-use plastics and have treatment solutions across the board from Wastewater to source water treatment and clean drinking water solutions as well.
In conclusion, the Kilifi County Innovation Exhibition showcased the diverse creativity and products of young innovators in Kilifi County, aiming to create a better future for the country and the world.
