Business owners will not be eligible for tax refunds or services if their businesses are not registered on the eTIMS platform.

This is the Kenya Revenue Authority's (KRA) warning to company owners who have failed to register on the eTIMS platform, with the March 31st deadline rapidly approaching.

According to the taxman, 728 434 firms out of 915,000 targeted have yet to comply with the regulation, with just five days until the March 31 deadline.

"If you don’t onboard it makes it difficult for the businesses to do business with you," eTIMS Chief Manager Hakamba Wangwe said.

The inability of firms to enroll on the platform, which attempts to provide all transactional information to the taxman, has resulted in the taxman failing to meet the projected revenue mobilization target of Ksh.60 billion, collecting just Ksh.25 billion.

At the same time, KRA has reported an increase in the number of fresh pins issued through the program.

"The 26,000 that are using the simplified solution what we've noted is they have had to formalise their business. This has been largely driven by the private sector we’ve had some of the retails outlets be very helpful in having tax payers onboard," said Wangwe.

eTIMS is a software system developed by Kra that allows taxpayers to invoice their clients and track transactions electronically. The onboarding procedure for eTIMS began on September 1, 2023, targeting all taxpayers doing business, including those not registered for VAT (non-vat taxpayers) but falling within the income tax bracket.
