A directive issued by President William Ruto states that all schools must reopen on Monday, May 13, 2024.

This decision was made in view of better weather forecasts that show less heavy rain, which in the past had forced the postponement of school reopening.

Simultaneously, President Ruto has directed that funds be allocated through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) for the reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by severe rains.

Due to delays caused by the intense rains, the reopening date of the schools was originally scheduled for April 29, 2024, but was eventually moved to May 6, 2024.

President William Ruto later on Friday last week directed the Ministry of Education to postpone the re-opening of all schools indefinitely following the flooding crisis occasioned by the rains.
