Ezra Chiloba has resigned from the Director General of Communications Authority barely a month after being suspended on graft allegations.

According to a press release by the Board on Thursday, Chiloba resigned on Wednesday, October 18, in a letter to the board's chairperson, Mary Mungai.

'On behalf of the Authority, I wish the outgoing Director General luck in his future undertakings and value his invaluable contribution to the organisation and the broader ICT sector,' said the Authority. Remarked the Chairperson of the CA Board.

His resignation ended his two-year stint at CA, which began in October 2021.

Chiloba had not worked for the agency since September 18, when an internal audit purportedly found significant losses in the CA plan during his tenure.

As a result, he was suspended indefinitely for claims of abuse of office and conflict of interest, among other things.

Chiloba disputed the claims as unsubstantiated and erroneous in a letter dated October 2 and addressed to CA Board Chair Mary Mungai, emphasizing that all acts made with respect to the management of the aforementioned mortgage program correctly followed relevant policies and procedures.

"I wish to state that the allegations leveled against me, (Conflict of Interest, abuse of office, intent to defraud the authority, lack of professionalism and integrity and negligence of duty and failure to show due care are unfounded, incorrect and unjustified," said Chiloba in the letter.

"I wish to reiterate that all steps with respect to Staff mortgage administration were undertaken in compliance with applicable framework and policies."

According to a report from the Special Board Audit and Risk Committee meeting on August 8, Chiloba applied for and self-approved a Kshs.25 million mortgage loan to facilitate the purchase of a property by himself and Jacob Simiyu Wakhungu without subjecting the transaction details to interrogation and approval by a higher authority.

He also claimed to have purchased a house and seven acres of land, which exceeds the one-acre restriction set by the Civil Servants Housing Scheme.
