Bomet University College students participated in a tree-planting exercise on Friday morning, guided by Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the Deputy President, as part of President William Ruto's ongoing goal to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Pastor Dorcas said that planting 10,000 trees is one exercise that can help mitigate climate change in the future.

"I am aware that these kinds of activities alter the environment. The speaker declared that the future is to green your surroundings and the nation.

“You are our future, and when you take care of the future, I am very glad as a mother because I know your children will live in a good environment.”

According to Pastor Dorcas, environmental neglect in the past has contributed to a number of the global issues related to climate change.

Pastor Dorcas has visited colleges and universities to speak with students and plant trees. She has already visited several universities for the exercise, including Chuka University and Masaai Mara University.

She also urged the students to put their studies first to have a better future and challenged them to avoid drugs and substance abuse, pointing out that this has become a national crisis.

Dr. Hillary Barchok, the governor of Bomet, urged the students to think of additional ways to combat climate change.
