"I Peter Salasya wishes to express sincere apology to the people of Mumias East & all Kenyans at large. My actions in the recent past has not been that of a role model or an example to the young men & women. Going forward, I promise to control my anger & reaction. Ni shetani aki."

it is unclear whether the apology was genuine or sarcasm as he had made a fan of the assault earlier, claiming he did not slap anyone but rather the man brought his cheeks closer to his hands.

"I Peter Salasya want to categorically state that I didn't slap anyone. The MCA is the one who brought his cheek where my swinging hand was. The contact between my hand & his cheeks is said to have produced a sharp sound. I don't remember assaulting anyone. Treat it as propaganda." he tweeted.

Salasya was arrested on Friday, facing allegations of assault, causing bodily harm, and producing a disturbance that could lead to a breach of the peace. He was released on Ksh.50,000 bail following his arrest.

The MP is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, January 16th.
