According to the office of Governor Johnson Sakaja, there are still thirty families in the social hall where the Nairobi County government has been providing food and shelter to the victims of the gas explosion that occurred in Mradi, Embakasi East, on Thursday night.

In addition to working with the National Construction Authority (NCA) and the National Building Inspectorate to conduct structural integrity tests on all buildings impacted by the gas explosion and fire, the county government announced that it would provide financial assistance to the fire victims.

After that, it would advise on the next cause of action, “which may include but not limited to the evacuation of the tenants,” Akivanga noted.


The county government said that a multi-agency team headed by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the county disaster team was investigating reports that surfaced on Monday morning regarding possible gas leakage at the location of Thursday's explosion.

"Precautionary measures have been implemented, such as the evacuation of nearby residences, and the area has been secured." The statement said, "Every County Government Emergency service is on high alert and standby at the scene to provide the necessary support."



The incident on Thursday happened at about 11:30 p.m. when a truck carrying gas cylinders exploded, creating a massive fireball in the sky.

According to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, as of early Monday afternoon, six people had passed away from burn injuries and seven more were in critical condition.
