Following a cheetah attack on the way to school, a junior secondary school student at Mweromuthanga Primary School in Muthara Ward, Meru County, is critically injured.
Locals claim that on Friday morning, as the young man struggled with the animal to save himself, he sounded the alarm.
But, when the locals arrived, the animal had vanished into dense undergrowth, negating the effectiveness of his efforts.
Senior Chief of the Area John K. Mamira saw and verified the incident, cautioning locals and their school-age children to be cautious of potentially dangerous animals that prowl the nighttime.

This occurs in response to complaints from the local community to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) regarding dangerous wild animals attacking and killing their domestic animals in vain.
They added that there are annual fatalities and that this was not the first time that wild animals had attacked residents of the area.
A few kilometers from the attack site on Friday last month, herds of elephants broke into farms, killing a 30-year-old man and destroying crops valued at millions of shillings.
In a similar vein, three people were bitten by hyenas that attacked herders in Muthara's lower districts last year; they were treated and released.
Since then, the student has been treated at the Muthara Sub-County Hospital in Meru County.
