The Tanzanian government has announced that At least 58 people have been killed by flash floods caused by heavy rains in 10 regions of mainland Tanzania in the past two weeks.

According to Tanzania’s Chief government spokesperson and director of information services, Mobhare Matinyi quoted police reports as saying that the victims were killed from April 1 to April 13.

Addressing the press on Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Matinyi said that ten of the 58 deaths were recorded in the Arusha region, four in Geita, two in Dar es Salaam, five in Iringa, one in Kilimanjaro, four in Lindi, six in Mbeya, five in Morogoro, 11 in Coast, and 10 in Rukwa.

He said the hardest hit regions were Coast and Morogoro, where 4,635 and 6,204 households have been affected, respectively.
