Danstan Omari has withdrawn from representing Rashid Echesa in the extortion lawsuit against Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa.
In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, Omari stated that he had withdrawn his legal services from the former minister but did not provide any other information.
“Kindly note that we are no longer acting for the above-named person. Any communication with regards to him should be directed to him or his representatives,” the lawyer told the investigative agency.

On April 3, the court gave Echesa a personal bail of Ksh.2 million and ordered him to appear before the police as soon as he was freed from the hospital, before April 23.
"Echesa is still in hospital and he will continue to be in hospital until when the doctors are convinced that he has recovered, so let it not be expected that he has been released on bond he's going to be out of Karen hospital," lawyers Omari and Clif Ombeta previously told the court.
Authorities were unable to arrest Echesa.
