Senator Richard Onyonka of Kisii has criticized the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), suggesting that its members should not receive salaries until politics and corruption are eradicated from within the organization.

In a statement, Onyonka asserted that EACC is ineffective as long as it continues to show favoritism towards friends. He reminded Kenyans of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's statement about Kenya losing billions of shillings annually due to corruption.

According to him, EACC would only be feared if it pursued elite leaders, but if it failed to do so, it would not command fear.

"EACC officials should not be earning salaries. Former President Uhuru stated we lose Ksh. 2 billion every day, which is Ksh. 720 billion a year yet it has taken EACC nine years to recover Ksh. 23 billion. Until we remove politics and personal favours for our friends, EACC means nothing. If EACC were targeting the ruling class and elite, people would fear them, but as of now, they are not feared because the elite know when arrested, they can bribe their way out ,"Stated Richard Onyonka.
