The Council of African Regulators (CAR) has appointed Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Board Chairperson, Ms. Mary Mungai as the Vice Chairperson.

In a statement, CA says Mungai secured the position after emerging second in the Chairpersons’ race, which was won by Mr. Mamady Doumbouya, the Director General of the Regulatory Authority for Posts and Telecommunications for Guinea Conakry, with 12 votes.

Ms. Mungai garnered seven (7) votes, while Malawi’s Mr. Daud Suleman, the Director General of the Communications Regulatory Authority, came in third with four (4) votes.

Elections for the position took place at the 13th meeting of the Council of African Regulators in Lilongwe, Malawi, held between April 17 and 19, 2024.

“Ms. Mungai’s election comes barely two months after Kenya won the bid to host the Transform Africa Summit (TAS) later in the year, from August 28 to 30, 2024,” read the statement in part.
