Residents in Kanthata Ikuu, Chuka Igabangombe, Tharaka Nithi county, are counting their losses after monkeys invaded their homes and destroyed their crops.

Locals say the monkeys have damaged hundreds of acres of farmland, leaving many households unsure about their food source.

According to the residents, the monkeys have damaged maize harvests, potatoes, beans, cabbages, kale, bananas, and other crops that are now grown in the fields.

“The monkeys are very destructive, destroying crops right from the roots,” said one of the farmers in the area.

The locals have asked Kenya Wildlife Society (KWS) personnel to intervene and relocate the monkeys to safer regions.
